2-28-11

Morning
  • we discussed 2-d versus 3-d
  • referred as ink scape versus sketch up
  • i made 2 chairs one was a water and the other was a checkered chair
  • then i downloaded some models from Google 3d warehouse
  • Such as pools, cars, mansions and chairs
Afternoon
  • went on instructables to find a final project
  • thought about doing a Nintendo arcade or a portable NES arcade
  • went on sketch up and made a design for the Nintendo arcade but, deleted it because i messed up
  • then i filled out 2 surveys for my internship on surveymonkey.com

February 28, 2011 Monday

Today was my first day, I learned how to use a program called Sketch Up. We used it to make a chair and other students were creative and found things like roller coasters and such to inculde in their creations. I am just getting used to the programs so i just basically listened and took notes to figure out how to use the program. It was a little frustrating because I've never used any thing like this so it was difficult to me. I eventually got it with help from andrew my instructor. I created two chairs using the additive and subtractive methods, both of which i took notes on. I learned the big difference between 2-D and 3-d, which is that 2-D is basically a flat surface and 3-D is more popped out and has more dimensions. I also learned how to decorate my chair and download pictures and places of things into my sketch.
In the afternoon, we have what is called open lab, meaning we get to do what ever we want that has to do with the program. I chose to get to know the tools of Sketch Pad a little more. Then I also decided to go on instructables.com which is a web site that shows you how to make things like clocks out of things such as push pins and old hard drives. It is a web site many students use to get ideas of what to do for their final project. I thought the website was very helpful it had alot of ideas I thought were cool. I also set up my blog and got to listen to music (but quietly).

2/28/11

MORNING:

  • We learned and compared the difference between 3D and 2D
  • We started using sketchup
  • Sketchup is a 3D modeling program we use to prototype our projects and experiments
  • We learned the basic tools in the program like; the select tool, the orbit tool, the square tool and the arc tool
  • After we were comfortable with our sketchup skills we made a model chair

AFTERNOON

  • We discussed what doing during open lab
  • I experimented with the sketchup tools we learned
  • Then I started looking for specs for my project "2004 Aston Martin Vanquish"
  • As well as a working engine model

what i did in green fab today

today was my first day back at green fab seince freshmen year. I had some promblems freshmen year but im looking to strat off fresh this year. So today at green fab when i came in i went to work with James and he tought me how to solder. I knew how to solder before from freshman year but i wanted to re-fresh my memorie. i had to learn how to cut the wire and melt it on to the perf bored. then after that lorie showed me some stuff that was messed up on a light switch. I had to de-solder it and solder it back the right way. Then after lunch i came back and made me a name chain. I learned how to put it in inscape and put it into the machanie and it was done.
  • In the morning we worked on soldering components.
  • first we learned the does and donts of soldering.
  • we learned that you have to always keep the soldering tip clean.
  • we also learned that when handing a friend the solderer you must put it back in the holder and allow them to get it themselves.
  • after learning we soldered resistors to a board for practice.
  • in the afternoon we worked on our open lab where we were able to work on anything green fab related .
  • i worked on making a chain for a group im in just for fun and to see how the lazer cutter works
  • i looked for a pig and copied it to the inscape page and thats all i was able to acomplish for now
  • then i did my last two surveys.
  • i learned how to use sketch up
  • we used ink scape
  • i learned how to rotate a sketch up model
  • we made chairs
  • i learned how to lazer cutter
  • Afternoon
  • we did open lab
  • worked on sketch up
  • learned how to download the American center (where the chicago bulls play) on sketch up

2-28

: This morning in Green fab we began soldering again
: We soldered the physical & electrical joining of 2 components
: The solderer goes from 600-700 degrees
: We must turn off the iron when not in use
: At ALL times we must keep tip clean

: This afternoon we did open lab
: Open labs can mean anything from projects to just simple things on sketch up or ink-scape
: I made a chain on ink-scape during open lab
: At the end of the day we worked on our student surveys

2- 28-10

In the morning
- i learned how to solder.
- soldering is the physical and electrical joining of 2 joints.
-and that safety = 600 - 700 degress
-some rules: -don't touch the tip
-Iron turned off when not in use
-Always return iron to holder not someone else
- and make sure it looks like hershy kisses when soldering.
In the afternoon
- we had open lab
- i was looking at a couple designs for my final project.
- I finished my design on inkscape
- some of the designs i looked at was playpens, doll houses, and dog houses
Today in the morning time we worked on inskape, sketchup.
we made chair on inskape just for practice.
I also learned about Additive and subtractive.
Additive-start with nothin and add peices until you get the shape you want.
subtractive-start with big block of material away with it until you get the shape you want.
at the afternoon session we did individual work.
i was working on my last semister project.

romaine 02/18/11

  • i was at the basket the basket ball court across the street playing basket ball
  • we played a half court game to 21
  • then we played an whole full court game
  • the carlos caught us playing and call our parents
  • i still stayed at green fab but others left
  • the we had to look up inspiring picture on tree guards that make us want to create our own tree guard we also did our second part of the survey
  • then we had time to do our individual work which i just listen to music because no one couldn't direct me to use the lazor cutter

An interesting Day February 18, 2011

~~Morning~~
  • The first part of the day i learned how to use SketchUp
  • I experimented with it first and then started to create real images
  • After i became good at this , i then began to create houses and export imaged from Google to make my creating to come alive
~~Afternoon~~
  • the second part of the day i made an inspiration board about how tree guards don't work.
  • i added pictures to the board and added decorations to make it visual and make people pay attention to it
  • After i saved it for the next time i work on it

2/17/11

  • I came in late so i missed what to do.
  • Then sofi had help me and said we had to make a night light.
  • WE used breadboards, potieometers , resistors , wire and a led.
  • She help me put the potieometers , nd resistors in the breadboard and then we put the wire nd the led to make it light up.
  • Then we test our thing and see if our led light up and mines was not workin at first . it was because the battries did not work and we put another set and my led lid up.

  • I was late in the afternoon so i was kind of lost.
  • Then mike explained what i had to do.
  • We had to make a board of pictures of tree gaurds
  • I did about 10 pictures of tree gaurds i liked and some that was not good.

2/17

This morning I ..
  • Came in a little late.
  • Caught up on the work the rest of the students did in class.
  • Made a night light with the bread board, LED lights, wires and resistors.
  • Cleaned up.
  • Stood for lunch.
This afternoon I ..
  • Was told that we are to make a precident study on tree guards.
  • Looked for different pictures of tree guards and pasted them into inkscape.
  • People were walking around trying to learn about what we do here.
  • Wrote this blog.
  • Stood after everyone left.
That is about all that consisted of my day. Learning about how to make a night light and actually making one and then preparing to make a precident study about a tree guard. I dont really understand much of what happened today but through the process, i'll eventually get it.

INSPIRATION BOARD

GFab. 2.17.2011

  • today in the morning we did more work with bread boards.
  • we learned how to make a night light with the bread board and some components.
  • we used a led, two resistors some black and red wires and a transistor.

  • a transistor is something like a spray can. it holds a lot of energy inside until it is released.
  • we also used a switch, that is something like a light switch.
  • when light hits it, bright light equals low resistance and low light equal high resistance.
  • in the afternoon i did a survey for green fab.
  • i also worked on my inspiration page about tree guards, i took all the pictures i downloaded and added them on a ink scape page along with captions.

*Today at green fab we learned about Guerrilla marketin.
i learned that guerrilla marketing an unconventional system of promotions
that relies on time, energy, and imagination rather than a big marketing budget.
guerrilla promotions tend to appear in unexpected places and use that element of surprise to catch attention and make people think..

*guerrilla warfare conflict in which a small group of combatants uses unconventional strategies
and tactics to take on a much larger but more conventional force.

on the afternoon i was working on tree guards i was searching for images on google and saved the pictures..

feb 17,2011

Today this morning we talked about night light.

James had talk about how night light are made.

This afternoon Carlos talked about tree guards.

this morning

this morning in class i learned how to make a night light with a led device
on a breadboard with volt wires
i worked with red and black wires.
i learned about circuit routes and the wires can not be together because the energy in the battery can blow up so thats why i have seperate the wires on the breadboard.

bright light=low resistance
low light = hiigh resistance

electricty can pass though easly.

02/15/11

im not sure what was covered in class just mmorning because i came late
i woke up late and was watiting for the bus.
i should have come earlier and make better ,
expections since i am a senior.. im working hard on trying to come early
and to be able to be in the morning class so i can learn all the different techniques of electricty
and lsd wires. and solar panels and volts..

in the afternoon class we talked about tree guards
and what was the important role for tree guards in the urban environment
and the reasons for why do tree guards protect trees.
tree guards is good to protect small mammals population and to stop litering
and to have a clean environment.
today we talk about tree guards and the purpose for tree guards i learned that tree guards are made to support weak trees and protect there week bark from stong winds and sun bern i dont think that there that effective but it was an interesting desscosion but i enjoyed this morning because we were learning how to set up a picture to print out on the laser cutter

2-15-11

today at Green Fab we learned how to make a basic circuit on a bread board.
we learned how to connect a potentiometer to a bread board.
we learned that the potentiometer is basically a resistor but the difference between the two is that a resistor is digital, and a potentiometer is analog.
in the after noon we learned what is the main purpose for tree guards and how we can improve them. some tree guards are better at certain things than other tree guards. Some trees are too weak to survive by themselves so tree guards are really important.
