Thursday March 31,2011

In the morning, we learned about lap joints. We looked at models that Andrew made and figured out how to do them ourselves. We first made something that could be a model for a pyramid or a cone. Then we made a model that looked like a ball. It was very difficult but in the end with some help, I was motivated and got it done properly.
In the afternoon, we worked on models for tree guards. We had the choice of doing either a sketch model or a physical model or either do a model using sketch Up or Ink scape. We had to do two of the choices, I chose to do a sketch model in my notebook and a physical model. There's a picture of my physical model to the left. The idea was that it would protect most of the tree. But the scaling is off, because the tree guard is too big. The little legs on the tree guard are to protect the roots from people stepping on them. It's not fully developed but it's an idea for now.

3-31-11

  • Today in green fab we was working lap joint.
  • We used lap joint technique to make models.
  • We made sphere pyramid.

MARCH 31,2011 BY LMFAO_LOL_LMFAO

MORNING

  • TODAY WHAT WE DID WAS MAKE 3D MODELS OF LAP JOINTS.

  • LAP JOINTS ARE JOINTS THAT WOULD NEED TO BE CUT OUT OF ANY MATERIAL AND OVERLAP THE OTHER OBJECT TO MAKE ITSELF INTO ONE.

  • WE MADE ONLY 2 JOINTS TODAY IN THE SHAPE OF A TRIANGLE AND A CIRCLE HAS TWO WHEELS THAT DON'T MOVE WHEN ROLLED.

  • ALSO WE MADE ONLY TWO MODELS OF THE LAP JOINTS.(I HAVE NO PICTURE OF MY MODEL)
AFTERNOON

  • IN THE AFTERNOON WE STARTED DESIGNING TREE GUARDS.

  • WE WERE PAIRED INTO GROUPS OF TWO.

  • MY GROUP WAS WITH ME AND WILL.

  • CARLOS TOOK ME AND WILL OUT TO GO SEE OUR TREEGUARDS THAT WE MADE LAST YEAR.

  • CARLOS ASKED US IF THE TREEGUARDS WE MADE LAST YEAR WERE GOOD FOR PROTECTING OUR TREES.

  • AND ME AND WILL SAID NO BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE NOW THROWING THEIR GARBAGE INTO THE TREE WHICH RIGHT NOW IS CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING.

  • WHAT ME AND WILL DID WAS RESEARCH ABOUT TREEGUARDS THAT WE WOULD MAKE LATER ON IN THE FUTURE.

  • I DID A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH AND I DISCOVERED THAT MANY NEW YORKERS DISLIKE MOST OF THE TREE GUARDS THAT ARE AROUND THE BRONX AREA BECAUSE WHEN BRONX PEOPLE INTEND TO PARK INTO TIGHT SPACES THEY TEND TO HIT THE TREE GUARD AND MAKE PARKING CARS FRUSTRATED.

  • AND AFTER THAT WE WERE TO DO MY BLOG AND JUST GO HOME.

  • AND THAT WAS MY DAY IN GREENFAB.

  • GOODBYE!
In the morning we talked about analogs
-We used arduino,L.E.D's,resistors,and potentiometer
-We programmed the L.E.D's and used potentiometer
-We also did some math and talked about the input and output of a arduino
-I today did a great job I finished all my work and got everything to work

In the Afternoon we continued on our tree guards
-Me and my partner Jorge worked with Carlos to make a design
-We went outside and talked about the good and the bad about the tree guards outside
-We discuss that we need to use our imagination to create one that is attractve that will also work
-I made some sketch models on different idea's I got from the web
-Carlos really helped a lot. next class we will figure out how are we going to design it
-Today everyone was productive and everyone got there work done and today was WAVEY!!!!

March,28,2011

Morning:

  • Today in the morning we learned about how to laser cut.
  • We were talking about how to make Inkscape work with Illustrator in just three steps.
  • The First step is to have both Inkscape and Illustrator opened.
  • The next step is to use Illustrator and format the basic steps.
  • The next step was on how to print the model.
  • You have to do the Physical Steps and the print process and advance settings to make the model come out perfect.
  • Later, when we were done with the morning question, we were told to make a model or 3d model of anything we wanted.
  • But when we were ready to go to lunch , I did not do any work except listen to Andrew on how to use the laser cutter.

Afternoon:

  • In the afternoon Carlos told us to finish our tree models.
  • We made trees,a curb, and the street view out of cardboard.
  • We had to use a 2inch scale for everything we did.
  • Also when we were done we were told to do what ever we wanted to do.
  • For example:laser cut, make 3d models of whatever we want, and for the other class was to do whatever they were doing.
  • Lastly we made our blogs and we were able to go home and sleep or play outside for the rest of the day.
  • And that was my day at Green-fab today

March 25th

This morning in Green Fab
  • since i came in late i missed half of the lesson. But i did catch what the lesson was about.
  • SO. Today we were learning how to use shortcuts for multiple LED's.
  • in order to use those shortcuts you have to put in a WHOLE NEW LIST OF ORDERS.
  • It's a little complicated but it is more efficient than re-writing the same format over and over again.
  • then we tried to duplicate the way that the light in the front of the car from Night Rider went back and forth.
This afternoon in Green Fab
  • we used the measurements from last week to make 3 dimensional 1/2 inch scales.
  • THIS WAS NO EASY TASK!!! It took us three hours just to make the 7 inch deep floor and the trees using copper wire.
  • we split up into three groups. my group had Carlos helping/supervising us.
  • We used materials such as Cardboard, box cutters, hot glue gun, 1 measuring tape, and a straight edge.
  • Hopefully by next week we will be done because this is SO EXHAUSTING!

  • Before Lunch we also had fun playing computer games till lunch came.

IN THE AFTERNOON
  • After lunch Carlos told us to were continue working on our tree models that we were supposed to be finishing.
  • What me and my group did was that we were to make a base for our tree models.
  • My job was to cut out 15 in. pieces of copper wire enough to make a tree wire or a model of a tree using copper wire.
  • When i was done cutting hundreds of wires out i was able to make only one model and only a bunch of copper wire on the side.
  • Even when i only made one it took most of the afternoon to complete one but i really i was ready to make my blog for the afternoon.
  • And that was my day in greenfab.

: Even though we worked on this last week we had to reset the breadboard
: He showed us Void-Looping
: He explained loops and other stuff to us

: This afternoon we began to create site models
: Our site models had to be something like the area we had to cover when we were surveying
: In our surveys we had to draw the given location across the street from the park
: Our site models were created on cart board as the street and we used copper wires to make the trees
: These site models were made by taking the actual size and turning it into inches to make a model

3/22

  • I came in late.
  • had a conference with Jonno and Jaymes.
  • went to lunch.
  • had a math lesson.
  • helped kenny with his project.

3/22/11

  • In the afternoon we learned how to scale measurements for a model of tree guards.
  • Scale is the process of making something big into something smaller while keeping things in proportions.
  • We had to measure out the length and width of the sketch and the whole thing.
  • I had worked on the sketch that Carlos had on the board.
  • The first step was the define the scale, a scale of a quarter means that 1 foot equals a quarter of a inch.
  • The second step is converting all feet measurements with inches into feet measurements with decimals.
  • The last step was to multiply the feet measurements with decimals by the scale.
  • Next time we will work on a model of the sidewalk that my classmates survey last class.

March 22,2011

Today in James class

  • We used the chip bored
  • Then we had to make a roll of L.E.D light
  • We had to cut the wire and make sure that the L.E.D and all the other parts were in the place
  • Wen we was done we had to see if the chip board worked
  • to see if the chip bored work we had to hook it up to the compute and used Arduino

  • In the afternoon we used the model that they had made and we had to put it to model
  • We learned math with using the drawing
  • Mike taught me fractions
  • We spend half of the day doing math
  • Now were doing our blogs

3/22/11

  • this morning we talked about making cases
  • we talked about the main reason was to keep all the electronic "guts" that made the phone work
  • basically the case was to keep the user safe from circuit board
  • a case is used to draw the user in to buying their product
  • the case was drawn up on what and how their company logo looked like and how different from their other opponents

  • this afternoon we talked about scaling down a sketch from feet to inches
  • lean how to convert fractions to decimals
  • we applied that to scaled down drawings
  • i didn't understand it at first but after work Carlos i understood it more
  • i think i learned something new this afternoon

march 22nd

This morning in Green Fab

  • we re-visited how to power an Arduino using a bread board.
  • then we setup six LEDS and six resistors to the bread board.
  • in order for the LEDS to light up with out burning out the electicity must first go thru the resistor.

We learned how to basically transport our parts for our cases into ink scape from sketch Up. We used a pdf to show our cases from the front, back and sides. So that way we could use the laser cutter to make the parts. So basically we learned how to use sketch up and the laser cutter together.

In the afternoon, we worked on our site models. We needed the measurements for each of our groups. This time my group was made up of yeltsey ,Salim and I. We had to do a lot of things over because of lack of comprehension, but when we finally got it we were pretty happy. We had to covert the measurements into feet and then into inches. To do this we used the scale of 1/2 an inch.

Thursday, March 17,2011

In the morning, we created basically carrying cases for portable USB chargers. Some people chose to use sketch up to create their model of it. I chose to make an actual visual cardboard model. It was a lot harder than i thought. I'm learning that this program it self is a lot harder than i thought.
My model was basically a box with an opening, so you could slide the battery compartment in and out. I didn't finish my project, but mostly everyone got the idea. The goal was to create a case that was portable, durable, and easy to use.
In the afternoon, we focused on sketching an area we were assigned to. We were broken up into four groups of three. I was in a group with Yeltsy and Maurice. Each group had three trees and some space around the trees to work with. We had to measure so much. We measured the distance each tree took up, and the distance of one tree's midpoint to another. We also measured the distance from the sidewalk to the end of the tree and from our tree to the other groups. We basically made a sketch model of our area.

3/17/11

  • today we talked about was why do electronics come in cases?
  • they come in cases to protect (waterproof, impact)
  • some cases design safety
  • some cases in style
  • some cases design mobility
  • This afternoon we had to do a survey.
  • we sketch three trees
  • after that we played around in the park.
  • This is the sketch the team i was in did.
  • we had to measure the center distance.

3-17-11

MORNING
  • In the morning we discussed about what the technology class was doing.
  • what they were doing in the other classroom was making USB chargers for themselves.
  • Andrew told us to make a drawing example of the students case that they will have when done.
  • Also we were asked questions of ( well i forgot but they asked us questions of what cases do?) AKA i don't have notes of what we did this morning.
  • After the questions i was making a 3d model of what one of the cases would look like.
  • QUOTE: ( I HAVE NO PHOTO OF THE MODEL I MADE THIS MORNING.)(CARLOS I'M NOT PUTTING ONE UP.)

AFTERNOON
  • After lunch Carlos told us that we were going to go out.
  • Before we went out Carlos said we were going to survey the street of where we were going to make our tree-guards in one month.
  • Carlos split us into four groups and our group was Me,Will And Victor.
  • When we went outside some people from the point wanted our help unloading the truck of clothes due to people who lost there home and personal belongings due to the fire that happened 3/9/11.
  • After we helped we were giving information on how we were to survey the block and/or street.
  • Furthermore after were done with our work Carlos told us we could stay for a while and chill and just have fun till we were ready to go back inside.
  • Lastly Carlos told us to do our blogs and then we could go home but i had to stay till 3:30p.m due to me cutting and now i got to do the time.
  • And that was what happened on this day in Greenfab.

  • we learned that once you learn how to make a LED turn on and off you can power almost anything.
  • we played around the arduinos and made them turn on and off for different variations of time and at different speeds.
  • to do this you need to have a software on the computer called Arduino. there you can change anything about about the speed and how bright the LED glows/lights up.
  • With Arduinos you can also power up things such as motors, and other recorded messages.
This afternoon in Green Fab
  • we found out the importance of a planned drawing and how to do so.
  • a planned drawing is a drawing from an over head view.
  • there are different dimensions for a planned drawing such as a running dimension and over all dimension.
  • we had to make a planned drawing of our class-room. the running dimension of our class was hard because of the columns in the walls but the over all dimension was also difficult because of how wide the walls were.
  • we were composed into teams of two people. each team got a measurement tape.

march 15 tuesday

This morning i...

3-14-11

Morning
*We finished doing our dream device workshop and I worked with Shane,Salim and Victor
*Our dream device was a trashinator it would take the garbage you put in it and transform it to electricity
*The trash would be sensed by the motion and pressure sensors that would be inside alerting the nanobots
*Then they would break down the garbage turning it into fumes and the turbine would make into electricity
*We build a prototype of the trashinator and it was made up of cardboard, tape, paper and a hot glue gun to put it together
Afternoon
*We learned a little bit about surveying but, we had to survey the room we were in and the mentor did a demonstration survey
*Measured each and every side of the room and did a quick sketch of it
*then we turned our measurements into feet and placed the measurements on the sketch based on the certain sides
*We also worked as groups it was me,Shane and George and first we each did an individual sketch of the room
*After we did all of that we continued to talk about surveying and the mentor was making sure everyone had finished there sketches and he said we would do the surveying outside to make the tree guards to protect the trees from poop and littering

class march 14th

4.we measure the whole class by width and succeeded
5.we used tap measures and we did a diagram of the room to plot the measuresments

Monday, March 14, 2011

In the morning we finished working on our dream device. My groups' dream device was an automatic dog walker. It had a remote to use and it looked kind of like a little car because it had wheels and a base like one. But other than that it didn't really. Both groups had to present, the other group did a actual visual for their presentation. They did a model of their product while we used ink scape to show our product.
In the afternoon, we worked on surveying. Carlos taught us what kind of surveying we would be doing. Basically we took measurements of the whole room. We did a plan view which means, we could basically see it as if we were above it. We were all in groups, we had to have different strategies to measure the room because there was a lot of furniture in the way of the walls. Unlike if it were an empty room it would be easier.
-In the morning We learned about arduino Duemilanova
-Arduino is a computer micro-controller
-We talked about input and output of a arduino
-We programed a arduino to a L.E.D and made the L.E.D blink
-We also made the arduino blink faster for example I made it blink 0.2 sec

-In the afternoon we talked about plan view
-We also did some surveys
-we sketched the room and made it look like a plan view
-My group (Brandon,Ashley) and I measured the whole room
-From there we sketched up and put all the measurements into their place
-Green Fab ^
  • in the morning we worked on arduinos
  • Arduinos is similar to a computer but it is smaller and has no mouse with no screen or keyboard.
  • its a mini device that deals with inputs and outputs.
  • this morning we learned how to make a LED blink on and off by placing it in the arduino and setting a code on the computer.
  • after we set the code we changed some numbers to change the output.
  • in the afternoon we worked on a survey of the room.
  • after drawing a model of the room Carlos and Andrew broke us up in to groups so we could measure the room.
  • Anthony, Yeltzy, Samantha, and I were in the same group.
  • we had problems measuring the room because of our small ruler and different things in the way.
  • Carlos helped us measure around things like the cabinet and it all added up to the exact measurement of the wall.

3-14-11

: This morning we worked on arduino programming
: The program was called arduino and we setup something called "hello world"
: "Hello world" is when we place a LED in the arduino and set it up that the LED blinks with the program
: Jayme's also explained inputs and outputs to us
: The input for the arduino would be a code and the output would be like the movement of a robot or something for example - on a computer the input would be a mouse and the output would be the monitor

: This afternoon we worked on "surveying"
: Surveying is basically a blueprint for a room or something that is being built
: Carlos showed us a quick example and show us how the measurements would go
: He then split us into groups and the surveying began
: For this particular survey we drew a blueprint for the green tech classroom and then began measuring

March 14,2011

  • Today what we did was to finish up what we did last week.
  • Last week we were talking about dream devices.
  • Today when we were finishing up our dream machines.
  • Our job was to make a edited version of our machine and present it to my classmates.
  • The image above my blog is a prototype version of the " Dog Walker 2000"
  • I presented it to the classroom and I showed that the robot can be operated with a wireless control.
  • The DOGWALKER2000 can be bought on March 03,2020 or pre-ordered and people could save $250.00
  • In the afternoon our mentor taught us about surveying.
  • What surveying is to me is when people take a short fill out form for different questions.
  • What Surveying really is when you have a blueprint or drawn in a plan.
  • Also Carlos split us into groups.
  • I was in a group with Isaiah and Shane.
  • What we did was to measure the room and draw a plan of the room.
  • I didn't finish the measure of the room but I also messed up the figure of the room.
  • When we finish Carlos told to do our blogs and I have to stay every afternoon with him and the other teachers till 4 because I have been cutting for the last month or so.
  • And that was my blog of 3,14,2011.

The Definition Of Surveying
  • the practice of measuring angles and distances on the ground so that they can be accurately plotted on a map.
  • Surveying or land surveying is the technique and science of accurately determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional position of points and the distances and angles between them.

3/14/11arduino and measuring

  • This morning we worked on a arduino project.
  • We learned that arduino has inputs and outputs.
  • We also learned that the arduino is like a computer and we can attach a keyboard or mouse to it.
  • We also found out that when we plug in the speakers the computer is actually talking to us.
  • we learned a lot about the arduino this morning like the fact that it is a micro controlled- mini computer.
  • This afternoon we sketched some more.
  • We sketched this afternoon but at the same time we also measured the room we were in.
  • We had to multiply because the measuring tape was too short.
  • We also measured in feet and centimeters.
  • This afternoon we worked on sketching and measuring and we also discussed tree guards.
Morning
  • i worked with Jorge and Isaiah on a little project
  • Jorge,Isaiah and i were working on the "THE TRASHINATOR"
  • i was a judge of another classmates project
  • i finished up what i did last week
  • we also did a prototype
Afternoon
  • Carlos introduced us to "surveying"
  • a survey is when you measure a existing space that you intend to design
  • surveys are drawn in plan view
  • we also broke up into groups to measure the room
  • i had to draw my own plan of the room

3-4-11

IN THE MORNING
  • we learned about ardunio microcontroller.
  • we learned that it is a mini computer.
  • Ardunio's are smaller than a computer and has no mouse.
  • A regular computer is bigger and has a screen.
  • Input is something that's on the computer such as a mouse or keyboard , output is how a computer speaks to you.
IN THE AFTERNOON
  • We listened to what Carlos had planed for the rest of the day.
  • He showed us a demonstration of what a survey should look like.
  • We went around the room and measured the whole room.
  • Then we calculated all the information we got.
  • Then we did our blogs

In the morning, we learned about User Interface. We listed household
chores, that we didn't like to do. Some of the chores that we listed
were taking out the trash and walking the dog. My group of Maurice,
George and I picked walking the dog and the other group made up of
Isaiah, victor and Salim picked taking out the trash. We created
machines to do these tasks for us. We did a process of multiple
brainstorms and also did a diagram of our machines. We had to make a
name for our product and a sketch. Then after that we had to write out
the steps to using the product. After that we listed the inputs and
outputs of our machines. Some of our inputs were like the power switch
and the analog stick. Some of our outputs were the speakers for the
microphone. We thought that the microphone would be a good idea
because then we could tell the dog commands while not having to
actually be there. Another output was the monitors, we used the
monitors for the cameras attached to the device so we could actually
see what was going on. Another thing we leaned was the difference
between analog and digital. An analog is something with a range of
value. A digital switch is a two position switch.
In the afternoon, a few men from the NASA program came to talk to us
about how we can get involved with the program. One of the men was
frank, the other was Ruben. Frank talked about several programs we
could get involved in. One of the programs was a two week summer
experience for 10th grade students. We could apply and go to a college
that the NASA program is involved with. The other man Ruben showed us
several videos. He also talked about how different programs are
creating different techniques to basically deflect the meteor from
hitting earth.

3/11/11

  • this morning there were only three people in the class so Andrew wonted to do a review
  • i made a circle with spikes coming out all around it
  • first i needed to make a regular 3d circle
  • then i used the move tool to stretch the circle

  • this afternoon it was an open lab
  • we could chose from Carlos'es project that he made on SketchUp
  • or we could do what we wonted to do but it had to be related to green fab
  • i mad a speaker system the i can use to listen to my ipod

March 11th

this morning in Green Fab.
  • We finished the DIY USB chargers.
  • Some of the parts in the DIY USB were 5 resistors, 4 capacitors, 1 diode, and a USB port.
  • Then we got our key chains back. we made them last week.
  • I made a mad smiley face only one eye lights up: (brightly) red.
This afternoon in Green Fab
  • Carlos told us we can work on anything we want.
  • I was making some final details on my key chain.
  • Then Carlos asked Romaine and I if we were up to the challenge of reproducing an exact model of a house he made in Sketch-up
  • unfortunately neither I nor Romaine made the house EXACTLY as Carlos made it.

Green Fab - day 2

This morning i;
-practiced soldering with lori
-discussed how to make a usb charger
-went over with James and Carlos my project idea
-discussed what the arcade joystick should look like with Nestor
-made a model to see the dimensions of the joystick

This afternoon I;
-sketched out the joystick's cabinet
-looked online for joystick parts
-finished the circuit board from last week
-opened nestors controller to see what we need for the joystick
-found the pieces I need for the controller and wrote them down

03/11/11

  • Because allot of people didn't come we got to do our own work
  • I just sketched two cars
  • I download them off the google warehouse then i add a little few things to it
  • Then i took a picture of it
  • We got to do anything we want that involves the activities at greenfab
  • When we came back from lunch we sat at the tables for instructions
  • We had to do out of three activities
  • I first made me an graphic picture on inkscape
  • Then carlos had me try to bill a model of a house he build
  • I couldn't complete the assignment from carlos
Today we finish making our U.S.B changer

we had to make sure that the U.S.B worked

so we tested it out on my phone and it did not work

Then Lori helped me fix my U.S.B

After Lori fixed the U.S.B it worked

In the afternoon i came late

we had free time so we could have picked to do whatever that we wanted to

i took pictures with Adriana and then we gonna etch them with the laser cutter

Then we had to write our blogs

Then we have to clean

3-11-10

Morning
we had to make designs for what would make our chores easier
such as robots, automatic trash cans and etc.
my design was to make a trash can that can automatically dispose of the trash
the materials required were a motion sensor, pressure sensor, a pedal and nanobots
we after wards made a sketch and took a picture of it
user interface are made up of inputs and outputs Example:input_keyboard,mouse,etc.we also had to find all of the inputs and outputs for the trashinator
Afternoon
we met two NASA astronauts that talked about what they did and how they help the world
One was Frank and the other was Ruben and they showed us two slide shows and videos of the world almost ending
\some facts I learned were that 60% of the NASA workforce is eligible for retirements
Also NASA stands for national aeronautics and space administration
After wards he showed some posters and his telescope some of the students looked through

3-10-11

  • in the morning we worked more on soldering and or usb
  • i needed to add a couple more components to my minty boost usb charger board.
  • i added the IC socket for holding the integrated circuit.
  • i also added the large power inductor that removes noise in the electric flow.
  • and last i added 220 micro farad.
  • in the afternoon we were visited by the national anorectics space administration ( NASA )
  • i learned that 60 % of nasa employees are eligible to retire.
  • i learned about national programs that you can do internships at.
  • i also learn about college internships you can do when you graduated from college .
  • they can pay 50 % of your college tuition.
  • Rubin and frank ( nasa employees ) told us that nasa works to understand and protect the earth.

blog march 10th

Morning class
-we got in class and finished our charger ports
-i had to solder the battery and resistors
-we used a icy sockets to hold integrated circuits
-we used a 220 microcircuits and large power inductors
-we are using this to created charger ports

Afternoon class
-people from nasa came into the class too speak about the wonders of space
-their names were frank and ruben , frank talk about oppurtunities at nasa for ummer progrmas for nasa too the 9 - 12 graders
-ruben showed us how a meteor was coming to earth and how it would affect the earth and how much damage it would do to the world.
-space shuttles that go into the space and was sent into space travel to reveal life on space
-it concluded with videos of how we can prevent the meteor from attacking the world and save us :)

3/10/11

-Today in green fab i came in early and got right working on soldering
- today we made a new thing it was a U.S.B.
- we made U.S.B to charge your i pod or phone we had to follow the steps and take our time
- the way we made it was we had to put all of the different resistors on to solder it on the circuit broad.
- Then at the end we tested it on some people i Pod to see if it charged

-In the afternoon i wen and played basketball in the rain.
- After lunch i had a conference with the people who work for N.A.S.A
- The reason why they came to talk to us was because they wanted to get students enrolled in the NASA internship program.
- they said the program offers not only money but it offers the chance for students to explore how life is space.
- if you do this program you travel around the world and you get a chance to visit the other NASA headquarters.
- i think it would be a inserted opportunity for kids that are inserted .
